The Actress Expresses Speaking About Trump Would ‘Worsen the Situation’ That’s Ripping the Nation Apart
Jennifer Lawrence has declared that she finds it inappropriate fitting to comment publicly countering the Trump administration, fearing it could intensify polarizing arguments and increase separation throughout the country.
‘I Question the Usefulness’, Says Lawrence
During a discussion, she shared, “Back in Trump’s initial term, I believed I was running around like a chicken with my head cut off. But experience has shown, election after election, public figures fail to influence in any way on electoral choices.”
Lawrence added, “Why continue? I’m just voicing my thoughts on something that’s going to worsen tensions dividing the country apart.”
Shifting Views
Lawrence has previously been open about supporting right and leftwing contenders in past elections. Growing up with Republican parents in her home state, she voted for John McCain in 2008 before joining the Democrats and revealing she recognized during President Obama’s term that voting Republican was voting against her own rights as a female citizen.
Past Statements
In 2015, she stated that Trump winning the presidency could represent “the end of the world” and endorsed Joe Biden in the 2020 election. During the most recent election, she gave her endorsement to the Democratic nominee, “as I think she’s a strong contender and I know that she will do whatever she can to safeguard reproductive rights.”
Industry Position
Lawrence was supported by most of Hollywood in her rejection of Donald Trump as a candidate for re-election, but the limited influence stars have over the electoral decisions was emphasized by Trump’s victory.
“Another four years feels different,” said the actress about his administration. “Because he said what he was going to do. We understood his record for his first term. He was very clear. And that’s the option selected.”
New Release
The actor is currently promoting Die, My Love, director Lynne Ramsay’s drama in which she portrays a young mom who deals with her emotional state in rural Montana. During a interview session for the movie in Venice, she addressed Israel’s bombings in Gaza: “It’s frightening. It’s horrifying. What’s happening is nothing short of a atrocity and it’s horrible.”
Wider Issues
She continued by saying that she was saddened by “the hostility in the discourse of U.S. political debates currently and how that is going to be commonplace to the younger generation right now. It’s going to be typical to them that politicians lie.”
The actor attempted to refocus frustration about the issue to policymakers rather than entertainers. “Stay focused on who is responsible,” she advised, in what many took to be a reference to the then-recent pledge endorsed by thousands of Hollywood professionals to avoid specific industry bodies.
Relatable Experiences
Jennifer Lawrence, who won an Oscar aged 22 for her role in Silver Linings Playbook, is generating Oscar buzz for her performance in her latest project. Although the director has denied the narrative being seen as one of maternal mental health issues and psychosis, Lawrence shared that she connected with parts of her role’s experience after the delivery of her second son, not long after production wrapped.
“I felt anxiety for my son,” she explained, “envisioning every potential danger, and then doubting everything that I was attempting. I was seeing a therapist, but I got on a treatment called that medicine and I used it for a short period and it made a difference.”
Career Moments
Lawrence also discussed of the liberating necessity of filming without clothes in the project while she was in pregnancy and unable to exercise.
“It’s refreshing,” she remarked, of being forced to cast off vanity. “Truly, I sometimes think where I’m like, How exactly do I differ between myself and a sex worker? But it doesn’t keep me up at night.”
