China Honors Jane Goodall's Contributions as a Inspirational Figure in Environmental Protection

Jane Goodall has been remembered as a "source of inspiration" across China, with countless people paying tribute online to the environmental advocate who died this week at the age of 91.

The British scientist and founder of the institute bearing her name was highly respected in China, and her research and findings were widely included in local textbooks, which featured her among "women of achievement" in text books.

Educational Impact Through Roots and Shoots

Her institute's flagship Roots and Shoots program collaborated with more than 1,000 schools across the nation, and over nearly 30 years it educated 10,000 teachers and informed numerous students across multiple regions about wildlife conservation and the environment.

"Her story is deeply motivating, and I was deeply influenced by it," a science communication expert from the National Zoological Museum stated.

"It's simple to shout slogans, but it's extremely difficult to actually achieve results and create change," the expert added, who had met Goodall on many occasions.

Scientific Community and Public Recognition

Multiple prominent researchers in the country offered praise to Goodall following her passing.

"Through her personal efforts, she continuously advocated for wildlife and nature conservation, aspiring that humanity would love and safeguard nature," the specialist commented.

Shi Jun from the national research institute described Dr. Goodall as "a model for all biologists and naturalists."

Enduring Relationship with China

State media noted the scientist's "long-standing connection with the country," which she visited for the 17th time last year, and spoke to state broadcaster, observing ecological improvements in China.

"Her conservation ethos and approach have influenced many people in China," stated Chinese media.

In 2017, the primatologist commented about the changes in the nation since her first visit two decades prior, with official initiatives driven in part by the degradation of natural habitats such as the Yangtze River basin, and the emergence of uncommon public demonstrations.

"It is certain that increasing numbers of people have grown conscious of ecological issues and the risk of the extinction of many species due to people's actions," she remarked.

The scientist acknowledged it was accurate that China had created significant damage to the environment domestically and overseas, but her vision was that the nation "might pioneer efforts in eliminating the dependence on traditional energy and establish a more sustainable future."

Social Media Response and Popular Reaction

News of her death also prompted hundreds of millions of engagements on social media platforms such as Chinese microblogging sites, where a related hashtag was seen by millions, and video platforms, where Dr. Goodall shared content.

"Thank you for your contributions to animal studies and conservation, and for providing motivation for females worldwide," said one comment under Goodall's most recent video, in which she urged movement and hope against human violence and ecological damage globally occurring, and the increasing effects of climate change.

"Decades ago, I attended the environmental programme 'Roots & Shoots' at school, founded by Jane Goodall in my campus. It has shaped my perspective significantly," shared a Weibo user.

"Xi Zhilong", the founder of Wild China Film, said Dr. Goodall had become "a guiding light, leading us forward."

"The environmental principles she has sown across the world will bring hope to this magnificent but vulnerable planet," he concluded.
