Brave Train Employee Suffers Critical Injuries During Mass Stabbing Incident on Express Train
A brave railway staff member who intervened to save travelers during a multiple knife attack on a high-speed train has sustained critical wounds, police stated on Sunday.
Details of the Terrifying Incident
Surveillance footage allegedly depicts the employee attempting to stop the assailant as the train journeyed between Peterborough and another station in the county. Bystanders recounted a frightening 14-minute period after the train left Peterborough, with injured victims running through compartments.
The individual, a 32-year-old British national from Peterborough, remains in detention for interrogation. Authorities declared a significant incident on the 6:25 pm service from Peterborough to King's Cross in downtown London.
Crisis Response and Aftermath
The event on the weekend resulted in 11 people being cared for in hospital after the train made an unscheduled stop at platform 2 in Huntingdon. Several individuals have since been released from medical care.
A bystander filmed the individual waving a large knife and being subdued with a Taser as he confronted officers on the station. He was allegedly heard yelling, "End my life, end my life."
“This awful event has created broad consequences. Our sympathies go out to the injured and their loved ones – particularly the brave member of train personnel whose relatives are being assisted by trained personnel,” stated a senior law enforcement officer.
Union Response and Appeals for Action
Train unions were quick to praise staff and call for more measures. A labor official said he would be “seeking urgent meetings with government, rail employers and law enforcement to guarantee that we have the best possible assistance, tools and effective procedures in operation”.
Another union representative encouraged the train operator and government “to act swiftly to examine security, to help the impacted employees, and to make sure that no incident like this happens again”.
Operator Praised for Quick Action
The operator who halted the service at Huntingdon was described as being “deeply affected” but “well”, and has been praised by association representatives for doing “exactly the right thing”.
“He didn’t halt the train in the middle of two stations where it’s obviously challenging for the emergency services to reach, but he continued going until he arrived to Huntingdon, where the assistance was pretty much waiting,” stated a union representative.

Authorities said they got the initial emergency reports at 7:39 pm, and the train was forced to make an unplanned stop in Huntingdon at 7:50 pm.
An witness recounted initially thinking if the situation was a holiday prank, but quickly understood from individuals' faces that it was real.
Police have confirmed there is no evidence to suggest the incident was a terror-related attack and have requested the community to come forward with any further details.
Train services on the affected line are expected to have delays until Monday, with passengers advised to postpone their journeys where possible.
